With the NanoPlan® therapy planning system a highly precise and functional software platform is being developed which will be easy to use for treating physicians. A software assistant will accompany the physician every step of the way when creating a therapy plan. The physician’s entries will be continuously checked for plausibility. In the case of contradictory entries, the user will be notified.

The heart of the NanoPlan® planning system is a new thermal solver (T-Solver) with an explicit temperature gradient formulation based on finite differences. This gradient formulation makes it possible to calculate the heat flow on thermal limiting surfaces with any desired shape with high levels of precision.

The T-Solver is generally able to determine time-dynamic 3D temperature distributions in any desired Voxel constellations of a thermally non-homogeneous medium. The time dynamics provide the user with the option of time estimation for the duration of therapy and/or an assessment of the risks in the stage of the temperature elevation. This is a major advantage over pure steady-state temperature calculations as they are often used in hyperthermia planning systems. The new T-Solver can also optionally take the temperature dependency of blood perfusion (cooling of the tissues through blood flow) into account.
